Electrical Codes
On July 1, 2007, the 2006 Editions of the International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Fire Code, International Mechanical Code, Uniform Plumbing Code, along with the 2006 Washington State Energy Code and the 2006 Washington State Indoor Air Quality Code became effective statewide. The Washington State Building Code Council (SBCC) adopted these codes on November 17, 2006, and the code package was required to sit through the 2007 Session of the Legislature before being implemented.
The SBCC is responsible for the adoption, modification, implementation and interpretation of all construction codes in Washington except the electrical code. The electrical code is controlled by the State Department of Labor and Industries/Electrical Section, which adopted the 2005 Edition of the National Electrical Code in May 2006, with local amendments. There is no current schedule for adoption of the 2008 Edition of the NEC.
