Electrical Codes
Ohio Governor Strickland has signed an emergency order to temporarily rescind the 2008 NEC and revert back to the 2005 NEC, effective immediately. This emergency order is valid for a period not to exceed 90 days, which is June 29, 2008.

This rule change only affects 1, 2, & 3 family dwellings; commercial/industrial installations are still required to comply with the 2008 NEC.

The Ohio Board of Building Standards, the state agency charged with the responsibility of adopting Ohio's construction codes, will also file a nonemergency rule, that will mirror the emergency rule. This nonemergency rule will follow the Ohio Revised Code Chapter 119 rule adoption process, which will take a minimum of 76 days, for the proposed nonemergency rule to become effective.

The proposed nonemergency rule is to continue with the 2005 NEC with a date to be determined by the OBBS; not to exceed January 1, 2009. Additional information forthcoming.
